Haré de ti una estrella

Eve Arnold ingresó en 1951 en la agencia Magnum gracias a Cartier-Bresson, en 1960 tuvo la oportunidad de seguir a Marilyn durante un par de meses, mientras rodaba Vidas Rebeldes en el desierto de Nevada. El rodaje, donde hubo peleas, borracheras, noches largas e infidelidades, me imagino gracias al calor y la soledad, terminó con la separación de la actriz de su marido Arthur Miller. Eve tuvo la oortunidad de acercarse a la reconocida estrella y mostrar sus diversos estados anímicos y los saltos emocionales por los que pasó durante ese tiempo, pero en todas las fotografías y en cualquier imagen que posteriormente captó de la actriz hay siempre un gran cuidado y respeto por su privacidad, algo para la fotógrafa imprescindible. Su amistad continuó hasta la muerte de Marilyn.

"At photo sessions, she was in total control," the photographer later recalled. "She manipulated everything - me, the camera. She knew a lot about cameras and I had never met anyone who could make them respond the way she did. So she got what she wanted, because she wasn't under all the kinds of pressure she felt during a film-shoot: remembering her lines, enduring hours of preparation. With me, she was in charge of the situations."
